Fragaria nilgerrensis is a type of wild strawberry plant. It grows naturally in parts of southern and southeast Asia. Unlike the strawberries you might buy at the store, its fruit is usually white or light pink.
About the Fruit
The fruit of the Fragaria nilgerrensis strawberry does not taste very good. Because of its poor flavor, this strawberry is not grown for people to eat or sell. It looks quite a lot like another wild strawberry called F. moupinensis.
How it's Built: Chromosomes
All strawberries have a basic set of 7 chromosomes. Chromosomes are like tiny packages inside every living cell that carry all the instructions for how a plant grows and works.
Fragaria nilgerrensis is known as a diploid plant. This means it has two sets of these chromosomes. So, instead of just 7, it has 2 pairs of 7 chromosomes, which adds up to a total of 14 chromosomes in each cell. This is how its genetic information is organized.
