Fragaria moupinensis is a type of wild strawberry. It grows naturally in China. This strawberry looks a lot like another wild strawberry called F. nilgerrensis.
About the Moupin Strawberry
All strawberries have tiny structures inside their cells called chromosomes. These chromosomes carry all the genetic information that makes a plant what it is. For strawberries, the basic number of chromosomes in one set is 7.
Its Unique DNA
Fragaria moupinensis is special because it is a tetraploid plant. This means it has four complete sets of these chromosomes. So, instead of just one or two sets, it has four! This gives it a total of 28 chromosomes (4 sets multiplied by 7 chromosomes per set).
