Senna odorata, also called fragrant senna or sweet-scented cassia, is a lovely flowering plant. It belongs to the legume family, which includes peas and beans. This plant is originally from Australia.

About the Fragrant Senna Plant
Senna odorata is usually a shrub that grows upright and spreads out. It can reach a height of about 1.5 to 2.4 meters (around 5 to 8 feet). Sometimes, it can even grow into a small tree!
Leaves and Flowers
This plant has special leaves called "paripinnate alternate leaves." This means the leaves grow in pairs along a stem, and they are arranged one after another. Each leaf has six to 12 pairs of small, oval-shaped leaflets. These leaflets feel a bit leathery.
The flowers of Senna odorata are bright yellow and shaped like cups. They grow in small groups or in larger clusters called panicles. These flowers have a light, sweet smell. That's why the plant is called odorata, which means "smelly" or "fragrant" in Latin.
When it Blooms and Grows Fruit
You can see Senna odorata flowers from mid-spring to early summer. After the flowers, the plant grows flat, long seed pods. These pods are a type of legume and hold many small seeds inside.
Where Senna Odorata Lives
This plant naturally grows in Australia. You can find it on the edges of forests in southern Queensland and down to New South Wales. People have also brought this plant to other countries like India and Mauritius.
