The Mystery of the Missing Ring
The story is set in a town called Cedarville. Griffin Bing, who is known as 'The Man with the Plan,' is having a tough time at his school. It feels more like a strict training camp than a regular middle school. The new principal, Dr. Egan, loves football and doesn't like Griffin very much because of things Griffin has done in the past.
Things get even worse when a very valuable Super Bowl ring is stolen from the school's display case. In its place, someone leaves Griffin's lost retainer. For once, Griffin doesn't have a plan! Dr. Egan quickly blames Griffin for the theft. Because of this, Griffin is sent to a special school for young people who have gotten into trouble.
Who Framed Griffin?
Griffin quickly realizes he has been framed. He starts to think about who might have set him up. He makes a list of people who could be the thief:
- Dr. Egan: Griffin calls him "Dr. Evil." Dr. Egan loves football and might want the ring for his own collection.
- Celia White: She is a nosy reporter who always tries to make Griffin look bad. She might have framed him to get a big story and a promotion.
- Darren Vader: This big kid often bothers Griffin. He might have found Griffin's retainer and used it to frame him, hoping to sell the ring for money.
- Tony Bartholomew: This boy claims the Super Bowl ring actually belongs to his family.
Finding the Real Thief
Griffin tries to catch the thief by sending an anonymous email. The email says a buyer is interested in a valuable item that "recently" came to them. He hopes the suspects will show up at the courthouse with the ring, where he can use a metal detector. But only Dr. Egan shows up, and he doesn't have the ring.
Griffin's friend, Logan, who is an amateur actor, tries to help. He pretends to be friends with Dr. Egan's daughter so he can search their house. But the plan fails, and they find no ring. Griffin is then placed under house arrest, meaning he can't leave his home.
The Final Plan
Griffin's friends meet him through video chat to come up with a final plan. Savannah, who loves animals, realizes that a type of rat called a pack rat is attracted to shiny objects. She thinks a pack rat might have taken Griffin's retainer and swapped it for the ring.
Melissa, the computer expert, hacks into Griffin's house arrest system. This allows him to leave the house without the alarm going off when his parents are out. During the school play, Hail Caesar!, Griffin leads Dr. Egan to the pack rat's nest. There, they find the Super Bowl ring!
Griffin is quickly rushed home and resets his house arrest anklet just as his parents arrive. Dr. Egan, who helped Griffin get home in time, apologizes to Griffin. He admits he was wrong to judge him. Celia White, the reporter, tries to get a story, but Dr. Egan stops her.
After everything is cleared up, Griffin asks the court to help his friend, Shank, leave the special school. The court agrees, and it seems like life will get much better for Griffin and his friends.
