Fran Manushkin, born on November 2, 1942, is a talented American author who writes books for children. She first worked as an editor for children's books before she started writing her own stories. Fran studied at the University of Illinois and Roosevelt University. She has written more than 20 popular children's books. In 2000, she received a special award from the Association of Jewish Libraries for her book Come Let Us Be Joyful: The Story of Hava Nagila.

From Teacher to Editor

After finishing high school, Fran Manushkin went to college. She earned a certificate to become a teacher. She worked as a substitute teacher for four months. Then, she decided to move to New York City. Her new goal was to work in publishing.

Fran worked for several big publishing companies. These included Henry Holt and Company, Rinehart & Winston, Harper & Row, and Random House.

Becoming an Author

The first book Fran wrote was Baby. It was published in 1972. After that, she wrote many more books. She even worked with famous boxer George Forman on a book called Let George Do It!. This book shares fun stories about the real-life Foreman family. Fran Manushkin still lives in New York City today.
