Frances Elizabeth Barrow (born Frances Elizabeth Mease) was an American author. She was born on February 22, 1822, and passed away on May 7, 1894. She is best known for writing many popular children's stories. She often wrote under the special name of Aunt Fanny. Her friends also called her "Frankie Blue."

Early Life and Family

Frances Elizabeth Mease was born in Charleston, South Carolina. This was on February 22, 1822. Her father was Charles Benton Mease, from Charleston. Her mother was Sarah Matilda Graham, from Boston. Frances had a sister named Alexina Black Mease. Alexina married a writer named Richard Grant White in 1850.

Writing Career

Frances Barrow started writing books for children in 1855. This is when her pen name, "Aunt Fanny," first appeared. A pen name is a special name a writer uses instead of their real name. She wrote about twenty-five books in total. Some of her stories were even translated into other languages in Europe.
