Building a Special Home
The Frances Kurth Sharrow House was planned in 1916. It was ordered by John Henry Kurth. He was the son of the person who started Kurth Brewery, a local business.
A Wedding Gift and Family Home
John Henry Kurth had the house built as a wedding gift for his daughter, Frances. Soon after, Frances married Lloyd C. Sharrow. Lloyd Sharrow later became the Mayor of Columbus. A mayor is the elected leader of a city or town. Frances and Lloyd lived in this house for their entire lives.
Architectural Style
The house was designed by an architect named Walter J. Keith. It was built in 1917 by Alfred Ibisch. The house shows the style of Prairie School architecture. This style is known for its strong horizontal lines and connection to the landscape.
