Francisco José Franco del Amo (born 1960 in Bergondo, A Coruña – died September 27, 2021, in La Coruña) was a Spanish expert and author. He was known for his work in biology and for making science easy to understand for everyone.

Franco del Amo earned his highest degree, a PhD in Biology, from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 1990. After that, he worked as a researcher in the United States for two years. When he returned to Spain, he continued his research and teaching at the University of Santiago de Compostela.

Working with Science Museums

In 1995, Francisco Franco joined the team at the Museos Científicos Coruñeses, which are science museums in A Coruña. He played a big part in creating the Aquarium Finisterrae. This is a famous aquarium that he helped design and set up. From 2002 until his death, he was the Technical Director of the Aquarium Finisterrae, which means he was in charge of how it worked.

Sharing Science with Everyone

Besides his work at the aquarium, Francisco Franco was also great at sharing science with the public.

  • He wrote many articles and books to explain science topics.
  • He worked with a TV show called “La Aventura del Saber” (The Adventure of Knowledge) on the Segunda Cadena channel.
  • He regularly wrote for a newspaper supplement called “La Voz de la Escuela” (The Voice of the School) in La Voz de Galicia.
  • He also contributed to a radio show called “Protagonistas de A Coruña” (Protagonists of A Coruña) on Onda Cero radio.

Through all these efforts, he helped many people learn about science in a fun and interesting way.
