Francisco García Paramés is a well-known investor from Spain. He was born in Galicia (Spain) on December 22, 1963. He is famous for managing investment funds. This means he helps people and companies invest their money wisely.
Francisco learned a lot about investing on his own. His way of investing is based on something called "Value Investing." This idea comes from famous investors like Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett. Value investing means finding companies whose shares are priced lower than their true worth. It's like finding a great toy on sale that you know is actually worth a lot more!
He studied economics at the Complutense University of Madrid. He also earned an MBA from IESE Business School, which is part of the University of Navarra.
In 1989, Francisco joined a company called Bestinver Asset Management. He worked there for many years, helping it become very successful.
A Career in Investing
After finishing his MBA, Francisco García Paramés started working at Bestinver Asset Management in 1989. For the first two years, he studied Spanish companies. Then, he began managing money for investors.
His work as an investment manager was very successful. For example, between 1993 and 2007, the money he managed for Spanish companies grew three times more than the average market. He also started managing international investments in 1997. From 1998 to 2007, these international funds grew seven times more than the global market average. Because of his great results, Bestinver became a leading company in "value investing" in Europe.
Francisco is known for sticking to his investment beliefs. For instance, he avoided investing in technology companies in 2000. He also stayed away from banking and real estate companies in 2007. These decisions helped his investors avoid big losses when those markets faced problems. He often met with his investors to explain his ideas, much like Warren Buffett does.
New Beginnings
In September 2014, Francisco García Paramés decided to leave Bestinver. He had different ideas about how the company should be run. After he left, some of his former colleagues started a new investment firm called AzValor.
Francisco had an agreement that prevented him from working for a competing company for two years. Once this agreement ended in September 2016, many people thought he would join AzValor. However, he surprised everyone by announcing that he would start his own company instead.
Later that year, he launched his own investment firm called Cobas Asset Management SGIIC. It is located in Madrid, Spain. He continues to manage money for investors using his "value investing" approach.
Awards and Recognition
On May 7, 2016, Francisco García Paramés received a special honor. He was given an honorary PhD in business from the Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala. This award recognized his achievements in the world of finance.
