Francisco Massiani (born April 2, 1944 – died April 1, 2019) was a talented writer and painter from Venezuela. He is best known for his first novel, Piedra de mar (which means Sea Stone). This book became very popular right after it was published.

Piedra de mar is a special kind of story called a Bildungsroman. This means it's about a young person growing up and learning about life. Massiani's novel tells the story of a teenager from a regular family in Caracas, Venezuela.

Francisco Massiani won several important awards for his writing. In 1998, he received the Municipal Prize of Prose. Later, in 2005, he won a prize from the Urban Culture Foundation for his storybook, Florencio y los pajaritos de Angelina, su mujer. In 2012, he was honored with the National Prize for Literature. This award recognized all the amazing books and stories he had written throughout his life.
