Jesus Francisco Ríos Alfaro was born on May 6, 1995. He is a professional baseball pitcher from Mexico. A pitcher is the player who throws the baseball from the mound to the batter. Currently, he is a free agent, meaning he is not signed with any team.

Francisco Ríos's Baseball Journey

Starting with the Toronto Blue Jays

Francisco Ríos began his professional baseball career when he signed with the Toronto Blue Jays on July 20, 2012. He was an international free agent, which means he was a player from another country who could sign with any team.

His first professional games were in 2013 with the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays. He played in 15 games that year. In 52 and one-third innings of pitching, he had a record of 4 wins and 6 losses. His earned run average (ERA) was 4.47, and he struck out 48 batters. ERA measures how many earned runs a pitcher gives up per nine innings.

During the offseason, Ríos played for the Tomateros de Culiacán in the Mexican Pacific League. In 2014, he played for the Rookie-Advanced Bluefield Blue Jays. He finished that season with 3 wins and 2 losses. His ERA was 5.91, and he had 38 strikeouts in 53 and one-third innings.

Moving Up the Ranks

For the 2015 season, Ríos was promoted to the Low–A Vancouver Canadians. He appeared in 15 games. He had a record of 3 wins and 6 losses, a 4.27 ERA, and 59 strikeouts in 65 and one-third innings.

In 2016, he started with the Single–A Lansing Lugnuts. He had a great start, going 2 wins and 0 losses in 6 starts. His ERA was very low at 1.20, and he struck out 43 batters in just 30 innings. Because of his strong performance, he was promoted to the High–A Dunedin Blue Jays on May 10.

That same year, in June, he was chosen to play in the All-Star Futures Game. This is a special game for promising young players. In 2016, Ríos made 21 starts and appeared in 4 games as a relief pitcher. He finished the year with 7 wins and 6 losses, a 2.91 ERA, and 108 strikeouts in 120 and two-thirds innings.

In 2017, Ríos played the entire season for the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats. He had a record of 3 wins and 9 losses, a 4.29 ERA, and 63 strikeouts in 86 innings.

On May 28, 2019, Ríos was loaned to the Diablos Rojos del México in the Mexican League. He played in 19 games, earning 2 wins and 1 loss with a 3.94 ERA. He struck out 24 batters in 32 innings. He also played 9 games split between New Hampshire and the Triple–A Buffalo Bisons. He had a 6.19 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 16 innings. After the 2019 season, Ríos became a free agent on November 4.

Time with the New York Mets

On December 13, 2019, Ríos signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets. However, he did not play any games in 2020. This was because the minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He became a free agent again on November 2, 2020.

Playing in the Mexican League

On May 20, 2021, Ríos signed with the Acereros de Monclova of the Mexican League. In 13 starts, he had 4 wins and 4 losses. His ERA was 4.39, and he struck out 64 batters in 67 and two-thirds innings.

He returned to the team in 2022 but played in only 6 games due to injuries. His ERA was 17.05 in 6 and one-third innings. In 2023, he had 1 win and 4 losses with a 9.25 ERA. He struck out 17 batters in 24 and one-third innings.

On June 27, 2023, Ríos was loaned to the Tigres de Quintana Roo for the rest of the 2023 season. In 3 starts for Quintana Roo, he had 0 wins and 2 losses. His ERA was 4.66, and he struck out 6 batters in 9 and two-thirds innings. He was placed on the reserve list on July 19.

On May 11, 2024, Ríos returned to the Acereros de Monclova for the 2024 season. He did not play any games and spent the entire season on the reserve list. Monclova released him on December 23, 2024.

Brief Time with Saraperos de Saltillo

On December 26, 2024, Ríos signed with the Saraperos de Saltillo of the Mexican League. However, he was released by Saltillo on April 8, 2025.
