Frank Barlow (born April 19, 1911 – died June 27, 2009) was a famous English historian. He was best known for writing detailed books about important people from the Middle Ages. Some of the historical figures he wrote about include Edward the Confessor, Thomas Becket, and William Rufus.

Frank Barlow's Life and Work

Frank Barlow went to St John's College, Oxford to study history. This is a very old and respected university in England.

His Career as a Historian

After his studies, Barlow became a history professor. He taught at the University of Exeter from 1953 until he retired in 1976. When he retired, he was given the special title of Emeritus Professor. This means he was still honored for his great work.

Barlow received many important awards for his contributions to history. He was a Fellow of the British Academy and the Royal Society of Literature. These are groups that recognize top scholars and writers. In 1989, he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire. This was a special honor from the Queen for his excellent work in studying English medieval history.
