Discovering the Frank Hutchins House
What Does the House Look Like?
The Hutchins House is a two-and-a-half-story building made of wood. It has a main rectangular shape. There are also several additions and sections extending from its sides and back. The front part of the house has a special roof called a gambrel roof. This roof extends over a porch that is set back a bit. The porch runs along the right side of this main section.
The porch you see today is a new version of the original one. It has pretty decorative woodwork. The roof above the porch has dormer windows, which are windows that stick out from the roof. The lower part of the roof is covered with wood shingles. Some of these shingles have decorative cuts, which is a detail repeated on the front of the house. The house is also connected to a carriage barn. The Kingfield Historical Society has fixed up this barn. It now holds interesting museum displays for visitors.
Inside the Hutchins House

The house has many unique and unusual decorations. You can see Eastlake style stained glass windows. There's also a staircase with special carvings. The metal ceilings are very fancy and decorated.
Some windows are placed in unexpected spots. The woodwork inside looks like it was made from whatever materials were available at the time.
