What the House Looks Like
The Hutchins House is a two-and-a-half-story building made of wood. It has a main rectangular part with other sections added to the sides and back. The front of the house has a special roof called a gambrel roof. This roof extends over a porch on the right side.
The porch you see today is a new version of the original one. It has pretty, carved decorations. The lower part of the roof is covered with wood shingles. Some of these shingles are cut into decorative shapes, making the house look even more unique.
Right next to the house is a carriage barn. This barn was also fixed up by the Kingfield Historical Society. Now, it holds museum displays for visitors to explore!
Inside the House
When you go inside the house, you enter through the main door on the right side. The inside has a central hallway with rooms on both sides, on both floors.
The house has many cool and unusual decorations. You can see beautiful Eastlake style stained glass windows. There's also a staircase with unique carvings. The ceilings are made of metal and have fancy designs.
Some windows are placed in unexpected spots. The wooden parts inside the house look like they were made from whatever wood was available. You'll also find built-in storage spaces in odd and surprising places. The house even has some old technology still working. This includes an early electrical intercom system and an old brick furnace in the basement!
