Frank Joseph Guarini Jr. (born August 20, 1924, died June 20, 2026) was an important American politician from New Jersey. He was a member of the Democratic Party. Mr. Guarini served in the New Jersey Senate from 1966 to 1972. Later, he was a member of the United States House of Representatives for seven terms, from 1979 to 1993.

Frank Guarini's Early Life and Schooling
Frank Joseph Guarini Jr. was born on August 20, 1924. His parents were Frank Joseph Guarini Sr. and Caroline Critelli. His family had Italian roots. He finished Lincoln High School in 1942.
Mr. Guarini joined the United States Navy and served from 1944 to 1946. He was on a ship called the USS Mount McKinley during World War II. After his military service, he went to college. He earned a degree from Dartmouth College in 1947. He then studied law at New York University School of Law, getting two law degrees in 1950 and 1955. He also studied international law in the Netherlands. In 1951, he became a lawyer in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Frank Guarini's Journey in Politics
Frank Guarini started his political career in the New Jersey Senate. He served there from 1965 to 1972. During this time, he worked to represent the people of New Jersey.
Serving in the U.S. Congress
In 1979, Mr. Guarini was elected to the United States House of Representatives. This is where lawmakers from different states go to make national laws. He represented New Jersey's 14th congressional district as a Democrat. He was re-elected six times, serving a total of seven terms. He decided to retire from Congress in 1993. After he left, Bob Menendez took over a similar district, though the district numbers changed.
Frank Guarini's Lasting Impact
Many places and organizations have honored Frank Guarini for his work and support.
The post office building in Jersey City, New Jersey, is now named after him. In Rome, Italy, John Cabot University named its campus the Frank J. Guarini campus. Also, the library at New Jersey City University carries his name.
In 2014, Mr. Guarini received the America Award from the Italy–USA Foundation. This award recognized his contributions to relations between Italy and the United States.
Dartmouth College, where he studied, created the Frank J. Guarini Institute for International Education. This institute helps students learn about other countries. In 2018, Dartmouth also named its graduate school the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies in his honor.
New York University School of Law, another one of his schools, named two special centers after him. The Guarini Center on Environmental, Energy and Land Use Law studies how we use land and protect our environment. The Guarini Institute for Global Legal Studies focuses on laws that affect many countries.
Frank Guarini lived a very long life. He became the oldest former U.S. Representative after another politician, Al Quie, passed away in August 2023. Mr. Guarini celebrated his 100th birthday on August 20, 2024. He passed away on June 20, 2026, at the age of 101.
