Frankfurt Airport is the largest airport in Germany. It is also one of the busiest airports in Europe. It ranks third in Europe for the number of passengers and second for the amount of cargo it handles. The airport is located in the city of Frankfurt. In German, its name is Rhein-Main-Flughafen.
In 2005, over 52 million passengers traveled through Frankfurt Airport. It also handled nearly 2 million tonnes of cargo that year. This shows how important it is for both people and goods moving around the world.

Getting Around Frankfurt Airport
Frankfurt Airport is very big, so it has special ways for people to get around. It even has two different train stations!
Train Stations at the Airport
- Commuter Train Station: This station is right under the main airport terminal. It's for trains that travel shorter distances, helping people get to and from nearby towns and cities.
- Long-Distance Train Station: This station is for trains that travel across Germany and even to other countries. It's just a five-minute walk from the airport terminal.
Airport History and Records
Frankfurt Airport has a long history. For many years, a military air base called the Rhein-Main Air Base was located next to the civilian airport. This base closed in 2005. The airport has also seen some extreme weather. In July 2015, it recorded its hottest temperature ever, reaching 101.8 °F (38.8 °C).
