Frans Bolweg (born March 30, 1950 – died January 10, 2015) was a Dutch sailor and a very important person in the world of sailing. He was a scout, a speaker, a National Race Officer, and an International Judge.

Frans Bolweg's Sailing Career
Frans Bolweg sailed different types of boats like the Clipper, Europe, and Laser. He was a regatta sailor for a short time. But he became really good at organizing sailing races.
Starting a New Sailing Club
In 1983, Frans Bolweg helped start a new sailing club. It was called the 'Surf, Zeil en Watersportvereniging Uitdam'. This club wanted to try new things in sailing. It was one of the first places in the Netherlands to host big international windsurfing races on open water.
Race Officer and Judge
Later, Frans became a top race officer. He led the first 'Match Race' event at the 1989 SPA regatta in Medemblik. He also worked at many other sailing events in the Netherlands. He was also interested in new events for old Olympic sailing boats. He was a race officer at the 2008 Vintage Yachting Games. He was an International Judge at the 2012 Vintage Yachting Games in Bellano, Italy.
The Voice of Sailing Events
Frans Bolweg was also known as 'the voice' of many sailing events. He worked as a speaker at countless events. These included the SPA Regatta and the Delta Lloyd Regatta. He also spoke at the team sailing competition in Rotterdam. He always informed the audience in a fun and professional way.
Frans Bolweg's Early Life
Frans Bolweg was born in Amsterdam. He was the third son of Maximilianus Wilhelmus Bolweg and Annetta Geertruida Maria Bolweg. His mother was a good regatta sailor. She taught him how to sail.
Moving and Education
Frans moved to Laren when he was young. He went to school there. His father worked in the grocery business. He wanted Frans to study and work in the same field. But Frans wanted to go to drama school. So, he left home to follow his own path.
Spiritual Journey
For more than twenty years, Frans traveled to Buddhist monasteries in Thailand. He went there during the European winter season. He used this time for study and meditation.
