Frans Geurtsen (born March 17, 1942 – died December 12, 2015) was a Dutch football player. He was known as a fantastic striker, which means he was great at scoring goals. Frans played football both professionally and for his country.
Frans Geurtsen's Club Career
Frans Geurtsen started his professional football journey with a team from his hometown, called Velox. This was in 1960. In 1962, his team did very well and moved up to a higher league called the Eerste Divisie.
He also played for a special team from Utrecht in a European competition. It was called the 1962–63 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. During this cup, he scored two goals against a German team named Tasmania Berlin.
In the summer of 1963, Frans joined a new team from Amsterdam, DWS. This was a big move for him. He quickly became one of the best players in the top Dutch league, the Eredivisie. He was the top goal scorer in the Eredivisie for two seasons in a row: 1963–64 and 1964–65.
In 1964, Frans and his DWS team achieved something amazing. They won the Eredivisie league title! This was a huge success for the club. Sadly, Frans had to stop playing football early. He got a serious injury to his Achilles tendon. Because of this, he retired in 1971 when he was only 29 years old.
Playing for His Country
Frans Geurtsen also had the chance to play for the Netherlands. This is a big honor for any footballer. He made his first and only appearance for the national team in October 1964.
This game was a FIFA World Cup qualification match against Albania. Frans scored a goal right away in his debut! Even though he scored, this turned out to be his only game for the national team.

After he stopped playing football, Frans Geurtsen found new things to do. He worked as a technician. He also stayed involved with football by coaching amateur teams in a region called North Holland. Frans Geurtsen passed away in December 2015 in Alkmaar, Netherlands.
