François André (born 19 July 1967 – died 11 February 2020) was a French politician. He was a member of the Socialist Party. He worked to represent the people of Ille-et-Vilaine in the French National Assembly. This is like the main law-making group in France.

Becoming a Politician
François André started his political journey in 2001. He was first chosen as a councilor for the city of Rennes. A councilor helps make decisions for a city or town. He was part of the Socialist Party, often called the PS.
Leading a Canton
In 2008, François André took on a new role. He was elected to lead the Canton of Rennes-Nord-Ouest. A canton is a small area within a larger region in France. He helped manage local government matters for the people living there.
Serving in the National Assembly
François André became a member of the National Assembly in 2012. He represented the area of Ille-et-Vilaine. The National Assembly is where laws are made for all of France. He was re-elected to this important role in 2017.
Important Elections
During the 2017 French presidential election, François André made a big decision. He chose not to vote for his own party's candidate, Benoît Hamon. Instead, he voted for Emmanuel Macron. Macron was the candidate for a different political group called En Marche!. This showed that he sometimes made choices that were different from his party.
His Later Life
François André continued his work as a politician. Sadly, he passed away on 11 February 2020. He was 52 years old. He died from Lung cancer.
