Fred Franklin Finklehoffe (born February 16, 1910, died October 5, 1977) was an American film writer and producer. He helped create many movies, writing the stories and helping to make them happen.

Fred Finklehoffe: A Movie Maker

Fred Finklehoffe grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts. He went to a special military school called Virginia Military Institute (V.M.I.). There, he met John Cherry Monks Jr., who would become his writing partner. They both graduated in 1932.

Writing Together

In 1936, Monks and Finklehoffe wrote a play called "Brother Rat." This play was set at their old school, V.M.I. It became so popular that it was made into a movie in 1938, also called Brother Rat.

They even made a second movie about the characters in 1940, called Brother Rat and a Baby. Fred and John also wrote the script for a musical movie from the big movie studio MGM. It was called Strike Up the Band and came out in 1940.

Big Awards and Comedy Films

Fred Finklehoffe was very talented. In 1944, he was nominated for a special award called the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. This award is given for the best movie script that was based on another story. He was nominated for his work on the movie Meet Me in St. Louis, which he wrote with Irving Brecher.

Later, Fred also wrote the scripts for two funny movies starring the famous comedy team Martin and Lewis. These movies were At War with the Army (1950) and The Stooge (1952).

His Family Life

Fred Finklehoffe was married three times during his life. His second wife was a Scottish actress and singer named Ella Logan. They were married in 1942.

In 1956, he married Carolyn Jo Phillips, who was a fashion model. They had one daughter together. Fred and Carolyn remained married until he passed away in 1977.
