Fred Obi's Football Journey
Fred Obi started his professional football career in the Arena Football League (AFL). This league plays a faster, indoor version of American football. He was known for his strong defensive skills.
Starting with the San Jose SaberCats
Fred Obi joined the San Jose SaberCats on March 16, 2015. This was his first team in the AFL. As a rookie, which means a first-year player, he quickly showed his talent.
He made four interceptions in just seven games. An interception is when a defensive player catches a pass meant for an opponent. He also made 43 tackles, which means stopping the player with the ball.
Fred played in all three of the SaberCats' playoff games in 2015. His team, the San Jose SaberCats, won ArenaBowl XXVIII. They beat the Jacksonville Sharks in the championship game.
Moving to Other AFL Teams
After his time with the SaberCats, Fred Obi played for several other AFL teams. On January 15, 2016, he joined the Los Angeles KISS. He continued to play strong defense there.
In 2017, he was assigned to the Cleveland Gladiators on March 20. That year, he was recognized for his excellent play. He earned Second Team All-Arena honors. This means he was one of the best defensive players in the league.
