Freddie James is a Canadian singer and musician. He was born on April 26, 1964. He is famous for his 1979 disco hit song, "(Everybody) Get Up and Boogie".
Freddie James was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA. His mother, Geraldine Hunt, was also a singer. When he was a child, Freddie moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Freddie started his music career very young. In 1979, when he was just 14 years old, he released an EP called Get Up and Boogie. This EP had four songs.
His song "(Everybody) Get Up and Boogie" became a big hit. Because of its success, Freddie was nominated for two Juno Awards in 1980. These awards are very important in Canadian music. He was nominated for "Single of the Year" for his hit song. He was also nominated for "Most Promising Male Vocalist".
In the same year, he won the Canadian Black Music Award. He received this award for "Best Album". In 1981, he released another album called Sweetness.
Other Projects
Freddie James also helped other artists with their music. He was a producer for the song "Murphy's Law". This song was by his sister Rosalind Hunt's band, Chéri.
Freddie also explored acting. In 1985, he performed in a play called Hair in Montreal. In 1987, he had a small role in the movie Wild Thing.
In 1992, Freddie released another album. It was called Come into the Jungle. This album had more of a hip hop sound. After this, he did not release new recorded music for a while. However, he kept performing live. He often performed in the Montreal area. He also went on tour for some shows.

In 2015, Freddie James spoke out about an experience he had. He said he was stopped by police officers in Montreal. He felt this happened because of his race. This type of event is called racial profiling.
