Freddie Little's Boxing Journey
Freddie Little started his professional boxing career in 1957. He quickly became a strong fighter.
Chasing the World Title
In 1967, Freddie Little got his first chance to fight for a world title. He challenged Ki-Soo Kim for the World light middleweight title. It was a very close fight, and Little lost by a "split decision." This means some judges thought he won, but more judges thought his opponent won.
In 1968, he tried for the title again, this time against Sandro Mazzinghi. The fight was stopped because Mazzinghi had cuts around his eyes. The officials decided it was a "no-contest," which means it didn't count as a win or loss for either boxer. Usually, if a fight stops because of an injury like that, the boxer who caused the injury (or was winning) would get a technical knockout win.
Becoming a Champion
Freddie Little finally won the World light middleweight title in 1969. He won by decision against Stanley Hayward. This made him the undisputed champion, meaning he held the titles from all the major boxing organizations at that time.
He successfully defended his championship two times. However, in 1970, he lost his titles to Carmelo Bossi by decision. Freddie Little retired from boxing in 1972.
