Frederick John Behre (born December 21, 1863 – died March 10, 1942) was an American artist. He was born in San Francisco, California. Behre became known for his paintings, especially his still life works.

Frederick John Behre's Life and Art

Frederick John Behre started his career as an artist-designer. He worked for Hubert Howe Bancroft in Berkeley, California. Bancroft was a famous historian and publisher.

Becoming a Pasadena Artist

By 1888, Behre had moved to Pasadena, California. He quickly became an important part of the local art community there. In 1893, he helped create the Artists League of Southern California. This group helped artists in the area connect and share their work.

Behre's Painting Style

Behre mostly used oil paints for his artwork. He was especially good at painting still lifes. A still life painting shows objects that don't move, like fruit, flowers, or everyday items. He died in 1942 in Los Angeles, California.
