Frederick Cornwallis, born on March 14, 1610, and passing away in January 1662, was an important English leader. He held several key positions during his life. From 1660 to 1662, Frederick Cornwallis served as the Treasurer of the Household. This role meant he managed the money and expenses for the King's royal household. He was also a Privy Counsellor, which meant he was a trusted advisor to the King. Frederick was the oldest surviving son of Sir William Cornwallis and his second wife, Jane. His family lived in Brome, Suffolk, England.

First Marriage
His first wife was Elizabeth Ashburnham. She was the daughter of Sir John Ashburnham. Together, Frederick and Elizabeth had three sons and one daughter. However, only one of their sons, Charles Cornwallis, 2nd Baron Cornwallis, lived past his father. Elizabeth passed away around February 1643.
Second Marriage
After Elizabeth's death, Frederick married Elizabeth Crofts. She was the daughter of Sir Henry Crofts. Frederick and Elizabeth Crofts had one daughter together.
Death and Legacy
In January 1662, Frederick Cornwallis died suddenly from a type of stroke. His death was noted in the famous diary of Samuel Pepys, a well-known writer of that time. Pepys described him as a man who spoke his mind.
Another person who knew him said that Frederick Cornwallis was a very cheerful person. They noted that he rarely let sadness affect him. He was also described as a very determined person who was not easily scared.
