Early Life and Military Service

Frederick Evelyn was born in 1734. He was the only son of Sir John Evelyn, who was the 2nd Baronet. When he was a young man, Frederick joined the army. He served in a cavalry unit called Elliot's Light Horse. This unit was part of the 15th The King's Hussars.

In 1759, he fought in a big conflict called the Seven Years' War. He took part in the famous Battle of Minden. This battle was a major event during the war.

Becoming a Baronet

On June 11, 1767, Frederick's father passed away. Frederick then became the 3rd Baronet. This meant he inherited the special title. The baronetcy was first created for his grandfather, Sir John Evelyn, 1st Baronet of Wotton.

When Frederick became the Baronet, he also inherited Wotton House, Surrey. This was a large and historic family home. It had been in his family for many years.

Family Life and Legacy

Sir Frederick Evelyn was also a member of the Jockey Club. This was a group for people interested in horse racing. On August 8, 1769, he married Mary Turton. She was the daughter of William Turton from Staffordshire. They got married in St Marylebone.

Sir Frederick and Mary did not have any children. When Sir Frederick died in 1812, he was 78 years old. Since he had no children, his baronetcy was passed to a distant cousin, John Evelyn.

Sir Frederick's estates, which included his lands and properties, went to his wife, Mary. She passed away on November 12, 1817, at the age of 71. Both Sir Frederick and Mary were buried in Wotton, Surrey.

Before she died, Mary decided who would inherit the Wotton and Sayes Court estates. She left them to another John Evelyn. This John Evelyn was a fifth cousin of her husband. Both Sir Frederick and this John Evelyn were descendants of George Evelyn, who lived a long time ago.
