Sir Frederick Richard Pollock (born January 12, 1827 – died December 24, 1899) was an important British army officer and government official in India. He was known for being one of Henry Lawrence's "Young Men", a group of talented young officers who worked closely with Sir Henry Lawrence.
Early Life and Family
Frederick Pollock was born in London, England. He was the sixth son of Sir Frederick Pollock, 1st Baronet, who was also a notable figure. In 1856, Frederick Pollock married Adriana Nicolas. They had a family with three sons and two daughters.
Career in India
Pollock began his military career by joining the Bengal Army. This army was part of the East India Company, a powerful British trading company that also ruled large parts of India at the time. He served under Sir Henry Montgomery Lawrence, a key British administrator, in the Punjab region.
From October 1849 to May 1851, Pollock worked as an Assistant Commissioner in the Kohat District. This meant he helped manage and govern that area. Later, in 1866, he was given a more senior role as Deputy Commissioner of Peshawar. This was another important position in the administration of British India.
On May 31, 1879, Frederick Pollock was promoted to the rank of Major-General. This is a very high rank in the army. He also received an important honor, becoming a Knight Commander of the Order of the Star of India (KCSI), which recognized his significant service.
Later Life
Sir Frederick Richard Pollock passed away in London in 1899. He was 72 years old.
