Sir Frederick Walker Mott (born October 23, 1853, died June 8, 1926) was an important British scientist. He was one of the first people to study biochemistry in Britain. He is well-known for his work on the brain and nerves (neuropathology). He also studied how glands in the body might relate to mental health. Because of his work, he was also a psychiatrist, which is a doctor who helps people with mental health issues.

Mott had a big idea for a hospital in London called the Maudsley Hospital. He was inspired by a similar clinic in Germany. Mott worked hard to get the money and plans ready to build this important hospital.

During World War I, Mott studied the mental health of soldiers. He gave a lecture where he shared his observations about a condition called "shell shock." He noted that this condition seemed to affect some soldiers more than others. He believed it wasn't a completely new problem, but rather a way that stress affected people who might already be sensitive to it.
