Exploring Fredericksburg's History
Fredericksburg has an interesting past! Long ago, it was also known by a slightly different name: Frederick.
A post office, which is where people send and receive mail, was opened in Frederick in 1834. It served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1900.
One of the most unique things about Fredericksburg's history is what happened to its original location. The first town site is now completely underwater! It was covered by the waters of the Lake Milton reservoir. This reservoir was created to help manage water and prevent floods in the area.
