Fredsville is a small place in Grundy County, Iowa. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's managed by the county.

History of Fredsville

Early Settlers and Beginnings

Fredsville started in the mid-1800s, which is around the 1850s. People from Denmark came to this area. They chose the highest spot in Grundy County to build their homes.

Even though it was a small community, Fredsville had a special building called a creamery. A creamery is a place where milk from farms is processed. They would make butter, cheese, and other dairy products there.

The Fredsville Church

In 1871, the people of Fredsville decided to start a church. It was a Lutheran church, which is a type of Christian church. At first, they called it the Fairfield Scandinavian Lutheran Congregation. This name made sense because Fredsville is in Fairfield township.

Later, the church's name was changed to Fredsville Evangelical Lutheran Church. It is still an active church today and is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Population and Status Today

In 1902, Fredsville had a population of 52 people. This means 52 people lived there at that time.

Today, if you look up Fredsville on maps like Google Maps, you can still find it. However, it is no longer an "incorporated" place. This means it doesn't have its own official city or town government anymore. It remains an unincorporated community within Grundy County.
