Freeburg, Ohio facts for kids
Freeburg is a small place where people live in Ohio, a state in the United States. It's not a big city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Washington Township in Stark County. Think of it as a neighborhood within a bigger region.
History of Freeburg
Freeburg officially started in 1842. This means someone drew up a map showing how the land would be divided into streets and lots for homes and businesses. It was a planned community from the beginning.
However, Freeburg didn't grow very big. One main reason was that it didn't have a railroad nearby. Back then, railroads were super important for moving goods and people. Without a train station, it was hard for businesses to get their products to other places or for people to travel easily. This made it tough for Freeburg to become a bustling town.
A post office opened in Freeburg in 1855. At first, its name was spelled "Freeburgh." But in 1894, the spelling was changed to "Freeburg," just like it is today. The post office eventually closed down in 1906.
Where is Freeburg?
Freeburg is located in the eastern part of Stark County. If you were driving there, you'd find it about 6 miles east of a town called Louisville, Ohio. You can reach Freeburg by taking Ohio State Route 153, especially near where it meets Beechwood Avenue Northeast.
Interestingly, the very highest spot in all of Stark County is located not far from Freeburg. It's just south of the community, in an area called Paris Township. This "highest point" means it's the highest natural elevation or spot of land in the entire county.
