Freekey Zekey's Music Journey
Ezekiel Jiles, along with his cousin Cam'ron and friend Jim Jones, started the hip-hop group the Diplomats. This happened in their hometown of Harlem, New York in 1997. Jiles chose the stage name Freekey Zekey.
In the early days, Freekey Zekey often acted as a "hype man." This means he would add energy to songs and performances. He would shout ad-libs or his name during other members' songs. He also wrote and performed many short funny parts, called skits, on Diplomat mixtapes.
Freekey Zekey spent some time away from music from 2004 to 2006. While he was away, he worked on his rapping skills. Just a few weeks after returning in November 2006, he signed a deal with Asylum Records. This deal was for his first album, called Book of Ezekiel.
The album came out on July 24, 2007. It featured other members of The Diplomats, like Cam'ron, Jim Jones, and Juelz Santana. The album did well, reaching number 23 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. After The Diplomats group changed in 2007, Freekey Zekey started his own group and record label, 730 Dips. He also joined Jim Jones' new group, ByrdGang.
