Friederike Lienig (born December 8, 1790 – died June 7, 1855) was a scientist from Latvia who studied insects. She was especially interested in moths. A scientist who studies insects is called an entomologist.

Friederike Lienig was very good at her work. Four types of tiny moths are named after her. One of these is called Cosmopterix lienigiella. She first learned about insects by teaching herself. Later, she got more training from Philipp Christoph Zeller. This training happened at a special school in Meseritz. She was also a member of the important Stettin Entomological Society.

Discovering New Moths

Friederike Lienig helped discover and describe many new types of moths. She often worked with Philipp Christoph Zeller. Together, they helped the world learn about these amazing creatures.
