Fruela II (also known as Froila II) was a king who ruled parts of what is now Spain in the early 900s. He was born around 875 and died in July 925. Fruela became the King of Asturias in 910 after his father, Alfonso III of Asturias, passed away.
When his father died, the kingdom was split among his three sons. Fruela received the original part, Asturias. His brother Ordoño became king of Galicia. Their oldest brother, García, became king of León. As king of Asturias, Fruela's main job was to keep control over the region known as Castile and its local leaders.

Family and Marriages
Fruela's mother was named Jimena of Pamplona. He was married two times during his life.
First Marriage
His first wife was named Nunila or Nunilona. We don't know much about where she came from. Some later stories say she was part of the Basque Jimenez dynasty, but there's no strong proof for this.
Second Marriage
Fruela's second wife was Urraca. She was the daughter of a governor from Tudela named Abd Allah. They got married by the year 917.
Becoming King of León and Galicia
Fruela had a good relationship with his brother Ordoño. Ordoño was the more powerful of the two. They worked together on the Reconquista, which was the effort to take back lands from Muslim rule. Fruela even signed Ordoño's official documents as "King Froila," and his wife Urraca signed as "Queen Urraca."
When Ordoño died in 924, the important nobles chose Fruela to be the new king. This meant he also became king of León and Galicia. However, Fruela was not very popular with the nobles or the people. Some historians think he might have taken the throne by force.
Challenges as King
Fruela had disagreements with some powerful nobles. He took strong actions against some who claimed to be related to an earlier king, Witiza. This made many nobles even more unhappy with him. Because of these issues, some people believed his reign would be short. He ruled for only about fourteen more months.
Death and Succession
Fruela II died in the early summer of 925. Some historical records suggest he might have gotten leprosy before he passed away.
After Fruela's death, there was a lot of disagreement about who should rule next. Several people claimed the throne. These included his younger brother Ramiro and the sons of his brother Ordoño II. Fruela's own young sons also tried to become king. In the end, Fruela's family lost out, and the throne went to the sons of his brother Ordoño.
Fruela's Children
According to some sources, Fruela had three sons with his first wife, Nunila:
- Alfonso
- Ordoño
- Ramiro
Other sources suggest that Ordoño and Ramiro might have been sons of his second wife, Urraca. It's possible he had other children too.
