The Fuji River (富士川 (Fujikawa or Fujigawa)) is a famous river in Japan. It flows from Yamanashi Prefecture to Shizuoka Prefecture. This river is 128 kilometers (about 80 miles) long.
The area where the river collects its water, called its drainage area, is 3,990 square kilometers (about 1,540 square miles). The Fuji River is known for flowing very fast. It is considered one of Japan's three fastest rivers, along with the Mogami River and the Kuma River.
Fuji River's Special Recognition
In 1927, the Fuji River received a special honor. It was chosen as one of the 100 Landscapes of Japan. This list highlighted places that best showed Japan's beauty and culture during the Shōwa period. The river is also very close to the famous Mount Fuji.
