Fulk II of Anjou (around 905 – 960), also known as "the Good," was a powerful ruler in France. He held the title of Count of Anjou from 942 until his death.

Life as Count of Anjou

Fulk II was born around the year 905. His father was Fulk the Red, and his mother was Roscilla de Loches. Fulk II became the second count of Anjou in 942, taking over from his father. He ruled for about 18 years, until 960.

The family of Fulk II, known as the Angevins, were very good at making smart marriage alliances. These alliances helped them gain more power and influence. Fulk's father had arranged his marriage to Gerberga. This marriage was important because it helped Fulk's daughter, Adelaide-Blanche, marry a future king of France. It also helped his son, Guy, become a Bishop.

After Gerberga died around 952, Fulk made another clever political marriage. He married the widow of Alan II, Duke of Brittany. Alan II had also been the Count of Nantes. By marrying his widow, Fulk gained control and influence over the city of Nantes. His second wife was also the sister of Theobald I, Count of Blois. This marriage helped Fulk II form a strong alliance with the House of Blois.

Fulk's Family

Fulk II and his first wife, Gerberge, had several children:

• Adelaide-Blanche of Anjou: She was married four or five times to important people.
• Geoffrey I: He became the next Count of Anjou. He married Adelaide of Vermandois.
• Bouchard: He became the Count of Vendome.
• Guy of Anjou: He became the Bishop of le Puy.
• Humbert d'Anjou: He is mentioned in records from 957.

Fulk II did not have any known children with his second wife.

His Death

Fulk II passed away in 960 when he was about 55 years old. His son, Geoffrey Greymantle, who was 20 years old at the time, took over as the Count of Anjou.
