Kenneth Jackson Jr. (born February 17, 1975 – died October 13, 1996), known by his stage name G-Slimm, was a talented hip-hop artist from New Orleans, Louisiana. He became famous for his unique rap style. His first album, Fours Deuces & Trays, came out in 1994. It was released by a local record company called Big Boy Records. The album was a big hit, and G-Slimm was about to sign a major deal with Relativity Records in 1995. Sadly, he passed away in 1996 before he could sign the new contract.
About G-Slimm's Life
Kenneth Jackson Jr. was born in 1975. He grew up in the Christopher Homes area of New Orleans's Algiers neighborhood. When he was a teenager, he started rapping. In 1992, a music producer named Charles "Big Boy" Temple discovered him. The next year, G-Slimm signed with Big Boy Records. Other artists like Mystikal and Partners-N-Crime also signed with the label. Kenneth changed his name to G-Slimm and began performing.
His first album, Fours Deuces & Trays, was released on September 3, 1994. The album also featured Mystikal, who was just starting his career too. Leroy "Precise" Edwards produced the songs. He gave the album a sound that mixed West Coast and Southern styles. The album sold over 200,000 copies in its first month. It became one of the most popular local rap albums of 1994. Many people compared its song layout to Dr. Dre.'s The Chronic album. It was the first album from New Orleans to have a California G-Funk sound. This sound was very popular in the mid-1990s.
The next year, Relativity Records offered Jackson a record deal. He was working on his second album, which was going to be called G-Slimm. However, he passed away before the album could be released. His last musical appearance was with his friend, rapper Tim Smooth. This song was on Tim Smooth's album "Da Franchise," which came out in 1998, two years after G-Slimm's death. G-Slimm's voice was also on Big Boy's 1997 album called "We G's."
His Passing
On October 13, 1996, G-Slimm was involved in a shooting incident. He was with three other men near the Christopher Homes Housing Development. G-Slimm was shot and later passed away at Charity Hospital. He was only 21 years old.
