The GLG Grand is a very tall building, known as a skyscraper, located in Midtown Atlanta. It stands about 186 meters (609 feet) high. This impressive building has 53 floors and was completed in 1992. Its design is inspired by the Art Deco style, and it has a unique pyramid shape at the very top.

The lower part of the GLG Grand is home to the Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta. This hotel has 244 guest rooms and is known as the only 5-star hotel in the Midtown area. The GLG Grand is currently the eleventh-tallest skyscraper in Atlanta. It was designed by Rabun Hogan Ota Rasche Architects and built by Beers Construction of Atlanta.

What Makes the GLG Grand Special?

The GLG Grand building is important for a few reasons.

Atlanta's First Mixed-Use Skyscraper

It was the very first skyscraper in Atlanta to be "mixed-use." This means it combines different types of spaces all in one building. The GLG Grand has a hotel, offices, and homes (called condominiums) all together. This was a new idea for Atlanta when it was built. Today, many new buildings are planned to be mixed-use, but the GLG Grand was a pioneer.

A Building's Journey

When the GLG Grand opened in 1992, the real estate market was not doing very well. This made it hard for the building to find people to rent its offices or buy its condominiums. The building's first developer, G. Lars Gullstedt, faced many challenges. However, over time, the building became very successful. In the mid-2000s, the areas around it also started to develop, making Midtown Atlanta a busy and popular place.

Hotel Name Changes

The hotel inside the building has had a few different names over the years. When it first opened, it was called the GLG Grand Hotel. Later, it became the Occidental Grand Hotel. Finally, in the late 1990s, it became the well-known Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta, which it remains today.
