Gakuya Horii (堀井 岳也, Horii Gakuya, born July 3, 1975) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a forward, which is a player whose main job is to score goals.

Horii's Football Journey
Starting His Career
Gakuya Horii was born in Kofu, Japan, on July 3, 1975. After finishing university at Aoyama Gakuin University, he began his professional football career in 1998. He joined Ventforet Kofu, a team from his hometown. At that time, Ventforet Kofu was part of the Japan Football League.
Playing for Ventforet Kofu
From his very first season, Horii played many games as a forward. His team, Ventforet Kofu, did well and was promoted to a new league called J2 League in 1999. In 1999, Gakuya Horii was a regular player, meaning he played in most of the team's games. However, the team finished at the very bottom of the league that year.
Moving to New Teams
In 2000, Horii moved to another J2 League team, Montedio Yamagata. He played a lot for them over two seasons. In 2001, he scored 10 goals, which is a great achievement for a forward. Later in 2001, in September, he moved to Consadole Sapporo, a team in the top league, J1 League.
Time in the Top League
Horii played many games for Consadole Sapporo in 2001 and 2002. However, in 2003, his team was moved down to the J2 League. From 2003 to 2004, he continued to be a regular player for Consadole Sapporo. But in 2005, he didn't get to play as much.
Returning Home and Retirement
In 2006, Gakuya Horii returned to his first professional club, Ventforet Kofu. This was seven years after he first left them. Ventforet Kofu had just been promoted to the J1 League, the top division. Horii played 16 games for them that season. At the end of the 2006 season, Gakuya Horii decided to retire from professional football. He had a long career, playing in 236 league games and scoring 39 goals in total.
