Galina Alexandrovna Smirnova (Russian: Гали́на Алекса́ндровна Смирно́ва) was a Russian painter. She was born on February 17, 1929, in Soligalich, Russia. She lived and worked in Saint Petersburg for most of her life.

Galina Smirnova was a member of the Saint Petersburg Union of Artists. This group was known as the Leningrad branch of the Union of Artists of Russian Federation before 1992. She is considered an important artist from the Leningrad School of Painting. She was especially famous for her beautiful paintings of people from her time. Galina Smirnova passed away on December 12, 2015.

Her Life as an Artist

Galina Alexandrovna Smirnova was born in the town of Soligalich, which is in the Kostroma Oblast region of Russia.

From 1944 to 1948, Galina studied art at the Kostroma Art College. This was her first step into the world of painting.

In 1949, Galina Smirnova began her studies at the Repin Institute of Arts. This famous art school was then called the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after Ilya Repin. There, she learned from talented teachers like Ivan Stepashkin, Vladislav Anisovich, and Mikhail Avilov.

Galina Smirnova finished her studies in 1955. She graduated from the Repin Institute of Arts. She was part of Yuri Neprintsev's art workshop. Other young artists like Piotr Litvinsky, Evgeny Maltsev, Victor Reykhet, and Yuri Belov also graduated with her.

Since 1955, Galina Smirnova's artwork has been shown in many art exhibitions. She painted many different kinds of pictures. These included portraits of people, scenes from everyday life, beautiful landscapes, and still lifes (paintings of objects).

Her most well-known works are her portraits. These paintings show people from her time. She also created interesting nature studies and genre paintings, which capture moments of daily life.

Galina Alexandrovna Smirnova became a member of the Saint Petersburg Union of Artists in 1960. This was a big achievement for her as an artist.

Today, you can find Galina Alexandrovna Smirnova's paintings in art museums. Many private collectors in Russia, France, Germany, and other countries also own her works.
