Galindo Garcés facts for kids
Galindo Garcés was an important leader known as the Count of Aragón. He held this title from 833 until he passed away in 844. Galindo Garcés was the son of García Galíndez, who was also a Count of Aragón before him.
Becoming Count of Aragón
Galindo Garcés took over as Count of Aragón in 833 after his father, García Galíndez, finished his time as count. A "count" was a powerful ruler in a specific area, similar to a governor or a duke, who managed the land and its people. The County of Aragón was a region in what is now northern Spain.
What Happened After Galindo Garcés?
Galindo Garcés did not have any children that we know of. Because of this, when he died in 844, the leadership of Aragón went back to a different family. This family was the one his father, García Galíndez, had replaced earlier.
The new Count of Aragón was Galindo Aznárez I. He was already a count in other areas like Urgell and Cerdanya from about 830 to 833. He also ruled Pallars and Ribagorza from 833 to 834.
Some historians think that a nobleman named Velasco Garcés might have been Galindo Garcés's brother. Velasco Garcés left the Pamplona area in 842 to join a leader named Abd ar-Rahman II. It's thought that this event might have played a part in why a different family took over the County of Aragón after Galindo Garcés died.
