Galloway, Springfield, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Galloway is a cool neighborhood located in the southeastern part of Springfield, Missouri, in the United States. It sits in a valley with a stream running through it. You can find Galloway about half a mile north of where two big highways, U.S. Route 60 and U.S. Route 65, meet. It's also about one mile south of a fun place called Sequiota Park.

The Story of Galloway

Galloway got its own post office way back in 1883. This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years, until it closed in 1943. The community was named after an officer from the Union Army. The Union Army was one of the main armies during the American Civil War.

Later, starting in 1945 and going into the 1950s, two important highways, U.S. Route 60 and U.S. Route 65, both passed right through Galloway. This made Galloway an important spot at the southeastern entrance to Springfield.
