Gallowhill facts for kids
Gallowhill is a neighborhood in the northeast part of Paisley, a town in Scotland. It's surrounded by the M8 motorway to the north and a railway line to the south. Roads and a farm mark its other edges. Most homes are flats or two-story buildings. There are also some three-story buildings, terraced houses, and two tall tower blocks called Gallowhill Court and Glencairn Court.

Gallowhill has two primary schools: St Catherine's Primary School and Gallowhill Primary School. Students from Gallowhill can attend four different high schools. These include Castlehead High, Paisley Grammar School, St Andrew's Academy in Paisley, and Trinity High School in Renfrew.
Gallowhill's Past
Before the current homes were built, a large, old-style mansion stood here. It was called Gallowhill House and was located where Priory Avenue is today.
The first homes in Gallowhill were built in the 1930s. More houses were added in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The two tall tower blocks were built in the mid-1960s. The newest homes were finished in the early 1970s. Some of the older buildings from the 1940s and 1950s have been taken down. But most of the homes in Gallowhill are still the same as when they were first built.

Many interesting people have lived in Gallowhill. These include the actor Gerard Butler, who has starred in many movies. Francis Convery, a well-known painter, also lived here.
Other famous residents include music manager John Reid and folk singer Danny Kyle. Footballer James Grady, actor and musician Tom Urie, and musician Jim Dewar also grew up in Gallowhill.
