Mallam Garba Shehu is a well-known Nigerian journalist and politician. He was born on November 27, 1959. He is famous for his work in media and for serving as a top aide to the President of Nigeria. He has been the Senior Special Assistant for Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari. Before this, he led the Nigerian Guild of Editors. He also worked as a spokesperson for former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar.

Early Life and Education
Garba Shehu was born in Dutse, Jigawa State, Nigeria. He grew up there with his family. He started his schooling at Dutse Primary School in 1970.
His College Years
After primary school, he went to Barewa College in Zaria in 1975. This is a famous school in Nigeria. Later, in 1981, he earned a bachelor's degree from Bayero University in Kano.
Career in Journalism
Shehu began his career in journalism in 1982. He worked as a correspondent for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Sokoto. He then moved to Lagos in 1984. There, he reported on energy news for Network News.
Rising Through the Ranks
Garba Shehu quickly became successful in his field. At just 33 years old, he became the managing director (MD) of a newspaper called Triumph. By the age of 37, he was elected President of the Guild of Editors. This is a very important role for journalists in Nigeria.
Political Roles
Shehu also has a strong background in politics. In 2003, he was appointed as a Special Assistant on Media to the former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Working with the President
In 2015, Garba Shehu played a key role in politics. He was the director of Media and Publicity for the All Progressive Congress (APC) during the presidential election campaign. After the election, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him as his Senior Special Assistant for Media and Publicity. He was reappointed to this role for another four-year term. Today, he also writes articles as a columnist for the Nigerian Premium Times newspaper.
