Mallam Garba Shehu was born on December 12, 1959. He is a Nigerian journalist and politician. He worked as a Senior Special Assistant for Media and Publicity. This important role was for former president of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari. Before that, he was the president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors. He also served as a spokesperson for former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar.

Early Life and School
Garba Shehu grew up in Dutse, a town in Jigawa State, Nigeria. He was born there and spent his childhood with his family.
His Education Journey
Shehu started his schooling at Dutse primary school in 1970. He then went to Barewa College in 1975. This college is a famous school in Nigeria. In 1981, he earned a bachelor's degree from Bayero University Kano.
His Career Journey
Garba Shehu began his career in journalism in 1982. He worked as a reporter for Nigerian Television Authority in Sokoto. In 1984, he became an energy reporter for Network News in Lagos. Later, he became the managing director (MD) of a newspaper called Triumph. He also became the President of the Guild of Editors. This group represents many journalists in Nigeria.
Working with Leaders
In 2003, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who was then the Vice President of Nigeria, chose Garba Shehu as his Special Assistant on Media. However, former President Olusegun Obasanjo removed him from this role six months later. The President has the power to appoint and remove political helpers for the Vice President. Even after this, Shehu continued to work at the Atiku Media Office (AMO). This office handled media for the Vice President's political activities.
A Voice in the Media
In 2015, Garba Shehu joined the All Progressives Congress political party. He was appointed as the director of Media and Publicity for their presidential campaign. After Muhammadu Buhari won the election, Shehu was appointed as Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity. He kept this role when President Buhari was re-elected. Today, he writes articles as a columnist for the Nigerian Premium Times newspaper.
