The Garbh Uisge is a short but exciting river in the beautiful Trossachs area of Scotland. It flows for about 7 kilometers (around 4.3 miles). This river starts its journey from Loch Lubnaig, a lovely lake nearby.

The Garbh Uisge then travels south-east. It eventually meets another river called Eas Gobhain. They join together just west of the town of Callander. When they combine, they form a bigger and more famous river, the River Teith.

About the Garbh Uisge River

The name "Garbh Uisge" comes from the Scottish Gaelic language. It means "Rough Water." This name perfectly describes the river because it has some fast-flowing and rocky sections.

Why "Rough Water"?

One of the most famous parts of the Garbh Uisge is the Falls of Leny. Here, the river rushes over rocks, creating a powerful waterfall. This is where the river crosses a major geological line called the Highland Boundary Fault. This fault separates the Scottish Highlands from the Lowlands.

The river also flows through a scenic area known as the Pass of Leny. Because of the Falls of Leny and the Pass of Leny, many people sometimes call the Garbh Uisge by another name: the River Leny.

Where the River Flows

The Garbh Uisge begins its journey at the southern end of Loch Lubnaig. This loch (Scottish for lake) is a popular spot for outdoor activities. From there, the river makes its way towards Callander.

The river's path is quite short, but it plays an important role in the local environment. It helps carry water from the loch down to the larger River Teith. The River Teith then flows into the Firth of Forth, which is an estuary leading to the North Sea.
