Garden City is a small place in Louisiana, United States. It's not a city with its own government, but it's an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that are part of a larger area, in this case, St. Mary Parish.
You can find Garden City on the south side of the Bayou Teche, a pretty waterway. It's about 3 miles southeast of Franklin and 2 miles west of another community called Centerville. Even though its post office closed in 2011, Garden City still has its own special ZIP code, 70540.
A Look Back at Garden City
Garden City started as a special kind of place called a company town. This means a company, the Albert Hanson Lumber Company, built the town mainly for its workers. They often owned the houses, stores, and other buildings.
In 1993, two buildings that used to belong to the lumber company became very important. They were added to the National Register of Historic Places. These historic places are the Hanson Lumber Company Office and the Hanson Lumber Company Owner's House. This means they are protected because they are important parts of history.
