Garden Valley is a small community located in Boise County, Idaho, United States. It's not a city, but a special kind of place called a "census-designated place." This means it's a community that the government counts for population, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city does. In 2010, about 394 people lived there.
Garden Valley is a popular spot for visitors from the nearby Boise area. People love to come here because it's surrounded by beautiful mountains and offers many chances for outdoor fun and recreation. Life for the first settlers, known as pioneers, was very hard. They mostly found work in logging, which is cutting down trees, or in mining, digging for valuable minerals. Ranching, which means raising animals like cattle, was also important. Later on, some people even worked as guides for hunters.

A Look Back in Time
Garden Valley has always been a small community. In 1909, only 25 people lived there. By 1960, the population had dropped even further to just 10 people. This shows how much the area has changed over the years.

Garden Valley covers an area of about 7.632 square miles (19.77 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 7.397 square miles (19.16 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.235 square miles (0.61 square kilometers), is water, like rivers or lakes.
Garden Valley's Weather
Garden Valley has a special kind of weather called a "warm-summer Mediterranean climate." This means it has warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. On climate maps, this type of weather is often shown as "Csb."
The hottest temperature ever recorded in Garden Valley was a scorching 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43.3 degrees Celsius). This happened on July 28, 1934, and again on August 3–4, 1961. The coldest temperature ever recorded was a very chilly -32 degrees Fahrenheit (-35.6 degrees Celsius) on January 21, 1937.
