Discovering the Gardner-Bailey House
The Gardner-Bailey House is important because it has been recognized as a historic landmark. On October 1, 1974, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a list of places across the United States that are considered important to our country's history.
A Local Landmark
Later, in 1984, the house also became a Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmark. This means it's also recognized as a special place in the local area around Pittsburgh. These recognitions help protect the house so future generations can learn from it.
What the House Looks Like
The main part of the Gardner-Bailey House has a square shape. On the first floor, you would find four rooms connected by a central hallway. There's also a grand staircase that leads upstairs.
Inside the Historic Home
Upstairs, on the second floor, there are three bedrooms and a bathroom. Behind the main section, there's a large dining room. After that, you'd find a big kitchen, which used to have rooms for servants.
The Carriage House
Out in the backyard, there's another building called a detached carriage house. In the past, people used carriage houses to store horse-drawn carriages. This one even had a special turntable, which helped turn the carriages around easily!
