Garner, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Garner is a small, quiet place in northern Linn County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's not a city or a town with its own local government. Instead, it's a collection of homes and perhaps a few buildings, where people live close to each other.

The Story of Garner

Garner might be small today, but it has a little bit of history! Back in 1899, a post office was opened here. A post office was a very important place in those days. It was where people sent and received letters and packages. It also often served as a meeting spot for the community.

However, the post office in Garner didn't stay open for very long. It closed just a few years later, in 1903. The community itself got its name from a local family who lived in the area, the Garner family.

Where is Garner Located?

Garner is found in a pretty specific spot in Missouri. It sits on Missouri Route CC. This road is about one mile north of where two other Missouri routes, Route C and Route 11, meet up.

The community is also located on a ridge. This ridge is between the east and west branches of a waterway called Yellow Creek. So, it's in a slightly elevated spot with water on both sides!
