Gary Phil Brandner (born May 31, 1930 – died September 22, 2013) was an American author who wrote exciting horror stories. He is most famous for his series of books about werewolves called The Howling.

The first book in The Howling series was made into a movie in 1981. Gary Brandner also helped write the script for the second Howling film, Howling II: Your Sister Is a Werewolf. The fourth movie, Howling IV: The Original Nightmare, is the closest to his first book.

Gary Brandner's novel Walkers was also turned into a TV movie called From The Dead Of Night. He also wrote the script for the 1988 horror film Cameron's Closet.

Gary Brandner's Journey as a Writer

Gary Brandner was born in the Midwest and moved around a lot when he was young. He went to college at the University of Washington. After graduating in 1955, he worked many different jobs. He was an amateur boxer, a bartender, and even an investigator.

Before becoming a full-time writer, he also worked in advertising. Eventually, he started writing fiction. Gary Brandner wrote over 30 novels and more than 100 short stories. He also wrote several screenplays for movies. He lived in Reno, Nevada, with his wife, Martine Wood Brandner, and their cats. Gary Brandner passed away in 2013.
