About the Peak Charles Pea-Bush
How the Peak Charles Pea-Bush Got its Name
Scientists officially named this plant in 2002. Two botanists, Gregory Chandler and Michael Crisp, described it for the first time. Their findings were published in a science journal called Australian Systematic Botany.
The second part of the plant's scientific name, acrocaroli, has a cool meaning. It comes from two old words. Akron is an Ancient Greek word meaning "top" or "peak". Carolus means "Charles". Put them together, and the name refers to Peak Charles National Park. This is a mountain where this unique plant grows.
Where the Peak Charles Pea-Bush Lives
This plant is only found at Peak Charles in Western Australia. It grows in a specific area known as the IBRA Subregion of the Eastern Mallee.
The Peak Charles Pea-Bush prefers to grow in thin soil. This soil is often found over granite rock and rocky areas. You can find it in open shrublands or in thick, bushy areas called dense heath.
